The APKI training program is a carefully designed combination of theoretical and practical components. To provide a balanced mix of both, we have established the following schedule:

• Four practical training sessions per year
  Throughout the year, we organize four hands-on training sessions at leading European dealers. These dealers will provide various koi for practical exercises. During these sessions, aspiring judges will extensively practice essential skills and techniques, such as benching techniques, accurately measuring koi, and classifying them. Additionally, educational skills will be taught and tested during these practical sessions.
• Four theoretical training sessions per year
  We also hold four theoretical training sessions annually. These sessions focus on the fundamental knowledge required for all (aspiring) judges. Topics include recognizing koi varieties and understanding regulations for different koi show types, such as those of APKI, Shinkokai, and ZNA. Additionally, etiquette lessons will be part of the program, covering the 'do’s and don’ts' for judges. The variety-related theoretical content will be partially conducted in collaboration with Joop van Tol from koiToday.
• Two teams sessions
  In an online group setting, we will discuss the results of various koi shows using video footage. These sessions also serve as practice for judging online koi shows based on video submissions.
• Additional “Day Internships” as trainee judge various koi shows
  In addition to the regular practical and theoretical training sessions, as well as teams meetings, we offer additional trainee judging opportunities at live koi shows worldwide. These trainee sessions are always conducted under the supervision of experienced, certified judges. They provide participants with real-life judging experience in the sometimes hectic environment of live koi shows.

This training schedule is flexible and adapted to the learning needs of the participants, ensuring optimal growth and development throughout the year.

This judging education program is facilitated in The Netherlands. It is run by 2 certified APKI Indonesia judges, Ronald Stam en Ruud Besems. Annual costs are € 495,00 excluding VAT (BTW). The program to become an APKI Europe Judge lasts 4 years.
